Soo Hoon has close to 30 years of corporate and regulatory experience in the local and international insurance industry. She specializes in strategic, operational and change management issues, with a special interest in talent development and capacity building.
Prior to joining iGlobe in 2008, she was Senior Managing Director at Great Eastern Life Assurance, responsible for business strategies of the established markets of Singapore and Malaysia. From 2000-2005, Soo Hoon was Executive Director of the Insurance Supervision Department at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), responsible for overseeing the liberalization of the insurance industry. She was also active as a former member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
Soo Hoon was headhunted in 1986 to start the life insurance business at Keppel Insurance, which was known for its business innovation strategies. She built the management team and grew the business from ground zero to its sale to HSBC in 2000.
Her business experience began as a trainee actuary with Commercial Union (London) in 1975 and then with American International Assurance (AIA) in Singapore. As Group Insurance Administration Manager (South-East Asia), she successfully re-organized the latter's operations in Singapore and Indonesia, instituted systems improvement and achieved operational excellence.
Soo Hoon is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (United Kingdom). In October 2007, she was appointed as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). She is a former panel member of the Singapore Central Provident Fund Board's International Advisory Panel (CAP) and of the Medishield Life Review Committee. Soo Hoon currently serves on the Medishield Life Council and the CPF Advisory Panel.
