March arrives with good news of fresh beginning and major milestones. On 4 March, Ms SooBoon Koh, iGlobe Managing Partners, celebrated International Women Day with other 700 women across domains. Alex Lau, Anacle Systems CEO, was named Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 on 10 March. And on 23 March, Mr Robert Chew, iGlobe Managing Partners, represented Silver Industry Standards Committee to present Silver Industry Standard Roadmap in Singapore.

Alex Lau named Entrepreneur of the Year

Some question “why”, others explore “why not”; and entrepreneurs live in the nexus of both. “Why” keeps his vision grounded, as “why not” opens paths of possibilities under his wings.

A decade ago, the 33-year-old Alex Lau was in an uphill battle against the giants. It took a deeply held conviction to believe Anacle could solve the hardest problems in energy & facilities management. It also called for creativity, insights and operational excellence to convince customers of the products’ superior quality. Today, at the age of 44, Alex is recognised as Entrepreneur of the Year at the recent “SCS 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner and IT Leader Awards 2017”.

Gala Dinner is one of the most prominent IT events of the year to celebrate key contributions across the industry. The event congregated over thousand industry leaders, government officials, and IT professionals.

Sharing his thoughts about this achievement, Alex said:
“I am deeply humbled and extremely honored. I could not have come this far without the support and dedication of my customers, our shareholders, our team as well as my wife. It has been a grueling ten years, and finally we are seeing Anacle launching beyond the red dot and the region.”

Since inception, Anacle has achieved several prestigious awards, which include “20 Most Promising Enterprise Asset Management Solution Providers 2016”, “Innovation in Asset Management Technologies”, “Singapore Energy Management Company of the Year”, “Red Herring Top 100 Asia” amongst others. Frost & Sullivan recognised Anacle as the second largest provider of commercial property management software, and the third largest provider of building energy management systems in Singapore’s retrofit market 2015 in terms of revenue.

In December 2016, Anacle joined HongKong GEM Board, raising HK$74 million from the listing. Post-IPO, the Company will continue to expand its reach in the HongKong market.

SCCCI threw big party for International Women Day 2017

“When you put a whole group of women together – they know how to celebrate life and being alive!”.

That’s what Prof Annnie Koh remembered about International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Career Women’s Group (SCCCI-CWG) this year.

Themed “Women for Women”, the event was SCCCI’s first collaboration with Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI). Over 700 women gathered at the event, also SCCCI first-ever fundraising concert and conference, at Resorts World Sentosa.

Minister Grace Fu Hai Yien graced the event. She encouraged initiatives to foster gender diversity at home and in the workplace.

Having chaired SCCCI- CWG since 2009, Mrs Koh Soo Boon has been the voice for women in the society. During her speech, Mrs Koh recalled the stories of Janet Ang, Jeanette Wong, Jennifer Li, Wandee Khunchornyakong and Anne Patricia Sutanto. Each story is a unique perspective that inspires and unites women to create impact where they are. We heard stories of setbacks and glass ceilings, but we also heard stories of passion, optimism and undying family support. These women made their bold statements of women dreams and unique contributions through times and across nations.

“Women for Women” sang high notes about women’s contribution across domains. Ms Ong Chih Ching, Ms Yang Yanqing, and Ms Noni Sri Ayati Purnomo, made exceptional keynote speakers this year. They shared the stories of success against all odds, of adaptability amidst change, and of success in male dominated world. Panel discussion, themed “Women in Roads Less Travelled”, featured Ms Mary Ann Tsao, Ms Theresa Goh, and Ms Siow Lee Chin, who also shared their extraordinary journeys.

The event raised more than $100,000 for two charities, the Tsao Foundation’s Hua Mei Centre and the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

Silver Industry Standards Committee for an age-inclusive society

Young entrepreneurs, passionate founding teams and talented developers- they are the faces of today’s latest innovation and technology. They are all-in and all-set to imagine the future, shaping it and elevate the experience of what we now know. Their latest creations, such as robotic limbs, also promise better technology to support the widespread rapidly rising ageing population.

And that was part of the discussion that took place lately on 23 March. It was the launch of Silver Industry Standard Roadmap and related new initiatives by SPRING and the Silver Industry Standard Committee of Singapore Standards Council. These were much needed interventions, as by 2030, 25% of Singapore will be above 65 years old.

Mr Robert Chew, Chairman, Silver Industry Standards Committee, said:
“The Roadmap aims to use quality and standards as a strategic tool to address the challenges of an ageing population by ensuring that infrastructure and services meet quality and safety requirements”

He also emphasised the business opportunities it represents. In fact, Singapore has been ranked third out of 15 APAC nations in terms of Silver Market Potential. This is a positive news, as it signals large opportunity areas for more silver-haired initiatives. Companies able to develop age-friendly technology and innovation stand to gain first-mover advantage in the regional and international markets.

We can now expect to see more recreational facilities and workplace infrastructure ready for the onset of the silver-haired workforce. The initiatives also came with official launch of guidelines on user interface design for older adults.
